Fisheries and Wildlife

Fisheries and wildlife are vitally important to the overall health of an ecosystem. Through the management and protection of both land and water, Anoka County Parks has provided quality habitat for both fish and wildlife.  Additional focus for wildlife has concentrated on providing nesting sites for birds such as egrets, great blue herons, sandhill cranes, and osprey throughout the county.  Several long term projects are currently in place for these species as well as an ongoing study of songbirds.  The Natural Resources Unit is also actively managing deer herds within the parks through the county’s Deer Management Program.  Additionally, Anoka County Parks provides vital habitat for several rare species of animals to include the Blanding’s turtle and western hognose snake.
