Construction Alert!
Construction for the Mississippi River Regional Trail Improvements is planned to begin September 22, 2009 and will continue throughout the fall.  Periodic trail closures will be required for construction activities.  The trail construction is planned to begin on the south end of the park and will be implemented in two trail phases:
Phase 1:
Construction will start at the trail entrance at the south end of the park by the footbridge at Pleasure Creek and will continue to the foot bridge at Coon Creek.  When this section of trail is in construction, the trail will be closed from the footbridge at Pleasure Creek to the footbridge at Coon Creek.

Please be advised the trail section from the footbridge at Coon Creek to the Visitor Center will be under construction for trail improvements starting November 12th and will continue into the following week weather depending.  The existing pavement will be removed on Thursday, November 12th and a portion of the trail will be repaved on Friday, November 13th starting at the footbridge. The remaining section of trail will be repaved the following week.  If you have any questions, please contact the Anoka County Park and Recreation Department at (763) 757-3920.

Phase 2: Construction will start on the north side of Coon Creek at the foot bridge and will continue north to the Coon Rapids Dam Visitor Center.  When this section of trail is in construction alternative trail routes will be posted.

The 446-acre Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park is one of the most popular in Anoka County. It is a year-round destination, especially during the cross-country ski season. Picnicking, fishing, in-line skating, walking and bicycling are favorite activities in the park. The boat launch is heavily used during the summer.

The East Coon Rapids Dam Visitor Center is open year-round and offers many amenities and services including programs. For more information on the services and exhibits in the visitor's center, click on the link to the left.

Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park is also home to Cenaiko Lake, a stocked trout lake, which provides ample opportunity to catch large fish in a beautiful setting. Minnesota DNR fishing regulations apply.

You can also fish the Mississippi River for bass, crappies, carp and more. Minnesota DNR fishing regulations apply. A boat launch is located behind the Visitor Center and there is no launching fee.  The Visitor Center sells bait and limited tackle. A species list, native fish aquarium, and a park-caught fish photo board can also be found in the Visitor Center.

All motorized vehicles are required to purchase a vehicle entry permit to the regional parks. Annual permits are available for $25, good for one year from date of purchase. Daily permits are available for $5 per day. The annual permit is honored at all Anoka County Regional Parks as well as regional parks in Washington and Carver counties.
