RESTORING & PRESERVING KORDIAK PARK
Upcoming improvements to Kordiak Park include:
Pavilion replacement: The new pavilion is complete. Reservations for the 2026 season are now being accepted.
Parking lot, trail reconstruction and bridge improvements:
- Engineering and design work is actively underway, with a 90% plan set expected by year-end.
Site analysis is nearly complete and concept design based on the Kordiak Park Community Survey will begin at the end of February/beginning of March. A community meeting will be held to review plans and proposed improvements in the first quarter of 2026. Construction anticipated summer 2029.
The Parks Department will be starting the design process to improve the parking lot and trails at the park. In addition, the County is seeking Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Recreation funds to replace the picnic pavilion.
The Parks Department along with Columbia Heights Mayor met with community members about restoring and preserving the health of Highland Lake and Kordiak Park. View the meeting minutes here.
The Highland Lake Water Quality sub-committee continues to discuss ideas on improving the water quality of Highland Lake.
