Mississippi River Trail re-route

The Mississippi River Regional Trail (MRT) in the southern portion of Coon Rapids Dam Regional Parks is closed for construction, please follow the trail detour route along East River Road – see trail closure and detour exhibits.

Due to ongoing erosion along the Mississippi, the MRT will be re-aligned farther away from the river’s edge. The MRT re-route project includes removing approximately 1,000 feet of trail near the eroding bank of the Mississippi and constructing a new trail farther away from the river.

Coon Creek Restoration Project

The Coon Creek Restoration Project is in the final restoration phase.
Restoration will continue into 2026.

Bridge, Culvert, and Trail Construction

Reconstruction of the bridge, culvert, and surrounding trails is complete with minor punch list items to be addressed (Spring 2026).
