BUNKER HILLS REGIONAL PARK REDEVELOPMENT
The County has plans to redevelop the roads, parking lots, and trails throughout the Bunker Hills Regional Park over the next several years. The Department hired Larson Engineering to design and engineer improvements to the roads and trails in the park. Construction is expected to begin in 2025 and will be on-going for several years to address all the pavement replacement needs.
Boardwalk Reconstruction
⚠️ The Bunker Hills boardwalk will be closed for construction starting Monday, October 13, 2025. ⚠️
Trails leading to the boardwalk on the east and west sides will remain closed during construction.
Phase 1 of construction will last approximately 3 weeks for removal of the old boardwalk and to pour the new concrete abutments.
Phase 2 will begin during frozen conditions in the winter of 2025 - 2026. Park users are asked to stay out of the construction area during the construction. The new boardwalk is planned to reopen in the spring of 2026, but we don't have an exact date until we are further in the project. There will be concrete work needing to be done, so that will be warm weather dependent. The decking used is structural timber that is significantly more durable and higher quality than a standard deck board. The bridge capacity is weighted for maintenance vehicles so is built quite different than the previous boardwalk.
Timelines may vary depending on weather and funding availability.
